Learning Bash

The CSIF computers consist of about 40 computers running the Ubuntu 22.04 Operating System.  The computers can be accessed in-person Monday through Friday on all days where instruction is being held.  The Computers are located in Kemper Hall, for more details click About.  The computers can be accessed remotely 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please note that the computers restart once each day between the hours of 3:30 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. and updates will run from 4:30 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. every day.

The CSIF Support team is  now part of the IT Service Desk of the COE-IT Shared Services and is usually staffed with at least one person during the CSIF hours of operation. The CSIF Support mainly troubleshoots and resolves issues that students and/or faculty have with the CSIF computers, but other duties include maintaining the lab rooms, computers, network services, and printing services. The CSIF Support also fields room reservations, and helps with personal technical issues.

Introduction

Bash is the shell, or command language interpreter, for the GNU operating system.  It is the Default shell for many Linux Operating System like Ubuntu and Fedora.  When you use the terminal or log in remotely to a non graphical interface in linux you are using the bash shell on the command line.

Bash Adventure Game

The game is called Bashcrawl and it works like an old word adventure game where you would type 1 verb and 1 noun to do things in the game, for instance, move north.  This game uses bash commands and arguments to do things in the game.  It runs on Windows and linux.  Seems fun and you'll learn a lot.
